Importance of Internal Links In SEO

Search engines use internal links to rank the sites or webpages. Availability of internal links in a site implies the comfortability to search engines to index the inner and deeper section of your website. Meanwhile it will make easier to users to find and explore the different places of your site. In the wikipedia, you can find many internal links linking to the internal pages of the wikipedia which makes users easy to understand the confusing terms.

Let me describe briefly some of the best practices for the structure of internal links for better SEO
  • Make multiple posts and pages

To link internally you need to give the link of location to go after being clicked. The linking from a page to the same page is not counted as internal linking and this doesn’t work for SEO. So, to link your one page or post to another you need multiple pages i.e. where to link and from where to link. So, make enough content in enough pages to link the pages internally and ultimately to go for better SEO of the site with the internal links.
  • Incorporate your header and footer sections with navigation links

Incorporation of navigation links in different sections like header, sidebar and footer will make visitors easy to explore your pages which supports in the user experience of your site and eventually improve your site’s search engine ranking.
  • Link related posts with each others

Find the different posts with somehow similar posts and content about the same topic at first and exchange their links somewhere in the post i.e. put the link of another post in suitable place in the current post and vice-versa. Visitors visit to the related post too in one hand and in the other hand search engines index such pages easily.
  • Make your anchor text relevant and keyword rich

Readers reading your post or viewing your page will try to know the content in the post whose link is put. If the anchor text is relevant to the content of that post or if the anchor text shows what the page with the link is about, they’ll click the link. This increases the user experience and ultimately supports for better SEO. Similarly, keyword rich anchor text in one hand will make the site user friendly and in the other hand it will help search engines index the keywords. In this way, you’ll be benefited from both sides.
  • Avoid “no-follow” in your internal links

“No-follow” attribute is suitable to use while putting the external links. At the meantime, you’ve to avoid this attribute in internal linking to improve the SEO of your site.
  • Link your important pages from the homepage

Home page is the main page of the website where visitors move to different pages and homepage is that page that users and search engines find easily. Links added in the homepage will be found easily which will result to the indexing in the search engines easily.
  • Don’t add too much number of internal links in a page

When we consume more amount, sugar also tastes bitter; in the same way addition of more number of internal links in a page makes that page look ugly and unmanaged. This irritates the visitors visiting your site and search engines too. So, don’t put too many links in the single page in your site.

This post was all about the importance of internal linking in SEO and tips for the best practice of internal links for SEO. I hope, it was helpful for you.
